//NEW URBAN CENTER in Rome

“La Trama" is the highlight of the project; giving a distinctive character to the outdoor spaces. It becomes an attraction for passersby- a modular structure in wood and and metal nodes specially designed to ensure easy and fast realization, inspired by the endless storage racks in fine arts studios. Reaching from the outside to the interiors, it offers a wide range of functions that characterize it- becoming an element that divides, combines, plays, exhibits and stores depending on the changing needs of the space.

// NEW URBAN CENTER in Rome

Elaborating on the functional layout, the outdoor spaces, “the Garden,” are designed to offer an engaging and accessible experience to everyone. Starting from the sidewalk and the city itself, an invitation is extended to enter a real community oasis to learn, play and socialise.

Entering the ground floor spaces from the garden, we pass through the cornerstone element of our project, “La Trama”, which, while respecting the externally conceived modular structure, becomes an installation and serves as a scenic backdrop for conferences, screenings, shows, and performances. The modularity allows for the installation of banners, boards, and panels for projections, ensuring flexibility in the display of various types of projects and works.

On the first floor of the building, there are spaces dedicated to the area defined as “the construction site- home to workshops, seminars, collaborations for academia, private sector, and citizens of all ages. In this floor “La Trama” becomes an active, sliding element that can divide the space in different ways and sizes.
On the second floor of the building, there is the space designated as “the square,” an ideal place to host the multimedia narrative of the metropolitan area, communicating upcoming projects, receiving feedback, and providing a space for citizens to explore both digital and analogous archives on “La Trama”, centered on the urban development of Rome.

The third and final floor has been designed in close harmony with the second, considering spatial configurations that facilitate double-height communication between the levels. In this context, the decision was made to include spaces known as “the window” for temporary exhibitions. On this floor, “La Trama” disintegrates, and becomes a highly flexible structure that can be assembled and disassembled depending on the nature of the event.

Awarded second place by the Municipality of Rome, Chamber of Architects of Rome, and the “Resources for Rome” initiative in regard of Expo 2030, the competition project for the new Urban Centre draws inspiration from the desire to transport the vibrant essence of the urban city into an enclosed space, thus becoming a laboratory that reflects the continuous metamorphosis of the city itself.
Our vision embraces the idea of the city as a living organism in perpetual change, an ever-evolving sculpture itself.
Within our environments, each visitor assumes the role of a sculptor, their own urban experience finds an intimate refuge where they can explore, experiment, and shape their perception of the city.
