“A curtain opened on the city”
FABRIC was commissioned by Gruppo Atlantica for the complete renovation of a 1960s building in central Rome, protected under heritage regulations. The project involved a full modernization of the interior office spaces, upgrading them to contemporary standards of functionality, comfort, and flexibility. The façades were carefully renovated to enhance natural light and improve the quality of the interior spaces, while respecting the building’s historical character. Attention was also given to the internal courtyard, the central plaza, and the main entrance, all reimagined to create welcoming, functional, and visually coherent public and semi-public areas. Among the ideas that particularly impressed the client was the creation of a social floor in the semi-basement, opened onto the garden through an excavation that forms an underground garden, bringing daylight and greenery deep into the building and offering a unique space for interaction and leisure. Another highly appreciated solution was the design of a rooftop social hub on the top floor, featuring a terrace for corporate events and moments of relaxation for office staff, combining functionality with scenic views of the city. Advanced building systems, lighting, and climate control were integrated discreetly, ensuring modern efficiency and comfort without compromising the heritage values of the structure. The project exemplifies FABRIC’s ability to combine historical preservation, innovative design, and functional, engaging work environments, transforming a mid-century building into a luminous, contemporary, and socially vibrant office.
